Really? Vice President of the United States goes overseas and says that someone else has a claim to Capital of the Free World? While I could see a social sciences professor making the claim, it just feels disloyal for the VP to say it. Does he not think about these thinks before he says them? Did it not dawn on him at all that is might bother some people, say Americans?
Not his stupidest statement but not all that smart either.
I have found the way we know that the stimulus package isn’t going to do anything, they are having Joe Biden overseeing it. He couldn’t even properly give out the web address (www.recovery.org). Hit & Run compares it to trusting Uncle Billy with the bank’s money in It’s a Wonderful Life.
If you’re worried that Sarah Palin might make a gaffe or two during tonight’s VP debate, this message (from the Maverick to you!) may make you feel better.
From Senator and Vice-Presidential candidate Joe Biden on CBS News:
Part of what a leader does is to instill confidence, is demonstrate that he or she knows what they’re talking about, and communicates to people, if you listen to me, and follow what I’m suggesting, we can fix this. When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on television, and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed, he said, look, here’s what happened.
So what is the problem? Well, FDR wasn’t President when the Stock Market crashed and the Depression began. Even if he was, tv isn’t how he would have communicated with the public.
Volokh cuts Biden slack saying that he is just tired and speaking off the cuff. But I don’t give him the same slack. He wanted to show how great the Democrats were and didn’t have a real life example so he made up something somewhat believable.
